Urban ecosystems
Urbanization is having a serious impact on biodiversity worldwide. However, urban ecosystems provides wide range of benefits to urban residents, who account for more than half of the world's population. Urban biodiversity conservation is therefore crucial not only for living organisms, but also for people's livelihoods. For this reason, I conduct research on the transformation and conservation of urban ecosystems, with the aim of preventing biodiversity loss due to urbanization.


Semi-natural ecosystems
Satoyama, landscapes traditionally maintained through moderate human use and management over many years, are treasure troves of biodiversity. However, recent challenges such as depopulation and the aging of agricultural workers have led to a withdrawal of human intervention from these areas, resulting in the serious issue of management abandonment. Consequently, Satoyama ecosystems, once teeming with diverse flora and fauna, are undergoing rapid changes and experiencing progressive biodiversity degradation. My research addresses this critical situation by first scientifically evaluating the impacts of management abandonment on biodiversity. Subsequently, based on these findings, it aims to explore new conservation strategies for Satoyama biodiversity that are also adapted to contemporary societal conditions
